We are a nonprofit group called Hearing Loss Association of Snohomish County. We meet monthly to educate, support and advocate for people who, like us, have a hearing loss. A very important part of our meetings is the availability of Real Time Captioning, which enables us to read in “real time” what is being said. Part of the equipment used in this process is a projector that displays the words onto an overhead screen.
The board and membership of our group wants to publicly thank Solly Rubin for his help in securing funding for our projector from the Central Everett Lions club, Snohomish County Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation and the Northwest Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation. Solly did all of the leg- and paperwork to get funding from the three of these wonderful groups. (Thank you Lions, for your generosity!)
We are very fortunate to have two excellent Real Time Captioners who volunteer their time and equipment to make sure we can understand what is being said and happening at our meetings. (Thank you Else Meek and Darlene Pickard!) Now that we have our own projector, we can occasionally use the generously offered services of college students who are working to become court reporters (who cannot afford their own equipment), to do some of our captioning. This will free Else and Darlene to take other jobs.
Thank you so much to Solly, and the Lions, for helping to make our meetings accessible to people with a hearing loss!
