Like thousands of others, I was shocked when I received my $633 electric bill. As a single foster parent, money is always an issue. However, having enough time to do everything I need to can be more challenging. Still I couldn’t sit back and say and do nothing about my electric bill.
I decided PUD needed to physically look into the eyes of the people their decisions effected. So I gathered up all my children and attended one of those public PUD meetings. It was a shocking experience, not because PUD couldn’t answer everyone’s questions. Not because there was no relief in sight (5 percent is a joke). What was shocking was there were no more than 150 people who attended this meeting. I asked myself, why didn’t more people attend? When I later asked people why they didn’t attend, they were apathetic and felt they had no power to change anything.
It is of great concern when many people roll over and do nothing when they have been mistreated. People cannot allow PUD to have that kind of power over them. We must all stand up and be heard.
