This seems to be an incredibly busy year for working on the future of Snohomish County. Our County Council will be making plans to locate housing for the 300,000 people expected to move here in 20 years. The council also will be deciding on ways to protect our water quality and our abundant shorelines.
Public participation is a critical part of the process. As council members make their decisions, ask them to keep in mind what we cherish about Snohomish County. Ask them to keep new development from sprawling out into our farms and forests. Ask them to protect the wealth of trees and animals along our shorelines and streams, as well as our countryside. Ask them to plan for our public safety services and transportation needs, as well as places for our kids to play and be safe. Let’s take responsibility for our future now, not just let more homes be built, more people move in and more traffic jams clog our roads.
