America has suffered an incredible tragedy, but I urge everyone not to add another tragedy on top of this – hate crimes against Islamic people. Do not repeat what was done to the Japanese after Pearl Harbor – unspeakable acts were committed against innocent people at that time. Direct your anger at the true perpetrators of this horror, once they are located, and support the efforts to punish the truly guilty.
Most of the Muslims here in this country are good people who denounce these terrorist acts with equal venom to yours. Many of them are here as refugees who have been persecuted by the same people whom we believe are responsible for these attacks. They have suffered at the hands of these fanatics. Do not add to their suffering by lashing out against them solely based on their ethnicity. The Islamic people I have the pleasure of knowing are wonderful, unbelievably generous, caring human beings. Please treat them with the respect they deserve. They have done nothing wrong; yet some of you are victimizing the innocent just as surely as the terrorists did.
