As a longtime resident of Snohomish County and a victim of a violent crime, I collected signatures, e-mailed my friends, and sorted campaign materials for I-1639.
There is no way my assailant could have overpowered me without a loaded gun! I felt strongly enough to testify before the U.S. Congress and a presidential commission.
Since 1974 I have worked in public libraries assuring people have all the facts to be informed citizens in our democracy. Many citizens agree we need this commonsense measure as evidenced by the 378,000 signatures we gathered just to get the measure on the ballot. My conversations with voters made it clear they had been concerned and understood the initiative’s purpose.
Please vote your conscience, and allow your fellow Americans to do the same by placing I-1639 on the ballot.
