I see the Herald has consumed the Kool-aid.
The recent editorial (“Keep AquaSox in Everett with downtown ballpark,” The Herald, Nov. 10) enthusiastically encourages us to fold to Major League Baseball and spend a lot of public money to give them a palace in which to play baseball.
Whether this makes sense or not isn’t the urgent question. Money is being spent and the mayor and council seem to have already made up their minds on it.
When will the public get to vote? I say the time is now.
In the recent primary election Everett voters were asked to approve an increase in our property taxes to cover shortfalls. As I then told the mayor and council members, I was on board with this and would have voted for it, but not if they kept spending money toward a new baseball stadium. The mayor’s response informed me she was planning to keep spending on a stadium and so I voted against the tax measure.
As I will in the future; unless we the citizens have the opportunity to weigh in on spending money on a new or upgraded baseball palace.
