The Monday article on increasing the price of a speeding ticket from $101 to $124 was certainly entertaining. Imagine a whole $23 price increase.
My thoughts are that if you increase the tickets $200 to $300 per mile over the speed limit, people will sit up and take notice and more than likely slow down. The extra money could be used to hire new patrol officers and also used for road improvement. (Sounds better than increasing the price of the tabs.)
It makes more sense to increase the price and make people slow down than it does for the state to pay out (taxpayer dollars, I might add) to settle lawsuits.
I’m sure there will be some individuals who won’t like this idea – but it sure wouldn’t hurt to try it for a few months and see how it works. Besides, it just might save your life or the life of someone you love.
If you are unable to pay the fine – there is always community service.
