In the early 1970s we made many trips between Seattle and Arlington with our three young children. They were intrigued by the many keep-out signs along the west side of the freeway near Marysville. We explained that that was a Boeing missile test site and people were not allowed inside. From then on, their favorite thing to do was to chant. “Keep out! Keep out! Keep out!” as we traveled past the fence with all those signs.
The other day my husband and I traveled by that same spot, noticing all the cars. My husband, with a bit of irony, chanted, “Keep out! Keep out! Keep out!” Times change.
