Regarding the Friday front page article, “Arlington to celebrate closing of Centennial Trail’s ‘gap‘”:
Wow! $1.4 million for 1.2 miles! On an existing railroad grade, no less. You don’t get much more groomed than a railroad grade. Why so much? Where — beyond “the state and county are sharing the costs” — are we getting the money for this, in light of Washington’s present financial woes? I mean really!?
How much does it take to make an old railroad grade suitable to walk and ride a bicycle on? Was this the generic “place to walk and ride,” or is it the Super Deluxe version, complete with curbs and sidewalks (in addition to the walking and riding surface), restrooms, showers and guardrails, etc.?
