The quotation attributed to Thomas Jefferson in Friday’s letter was not made by him. A website dedicated to Jefferson and his world by Monticello researchers and respected Jefferson scholars provides a factual analysis of the quotation at http://wiki.monticello.org/mediawiki/index.php/Private_Banks_(Quotation).
It’s interesting how some folks see something which agrees with their own philosophies, accept it as gospel, and disseminate it without any effort to determine its validity. Too often, it seems that false and misleading information is deliberately distributed in an attempt to discredit those in power, a motive which does not serve our nation well. And that’s not a partisan issue, it happens to every administration.
It would be wonderful if letters were subject to a fact check before being printed. People are certainly entitled to their opinion, right or wrong, but opinions which are factually in error really don’t deserve to be promulgated.
