The recent devastation of our roads, houses, fences, health of our livestock, fire protection (lost one house, burned to the ground), aid responses, lost wages, school shut down, millions of dollars lost, etc. All due to a river out of control. Thirty miles of trees, logs, stumps piled on every corner of the river.
For hours and hours the Skykomish River roared downhill to the bay, tearing up everything in its path. The braided channels that Jackson, Meeds, Woody and other Democrats said we needed as law to protect are gone, gone, gone! The Skykomish Scenic River did just the opposite. It sealed its fate. Look at it now – a river of rock a half-mile wide – no trees, no side channels for fish habitat. Who won? Nobody!
For hours and hours the Sky took its energy out on the banks of our once beautiful river. It boggles the mind. Meanwhile, our PUD is looking for energy in Goldendale, buying wood chips in Canada, etc. All the while, the world’s cheapest and renewable energy goes merrily on its way, tearing up our valley. (Oops, Sierra Club’s valley.)
Sen. Murray, Rep. Larsen, don’t make the same mistake Jackson, Meeds, Woody and others made. At least give us an environmental impact study on your wilderness bill before you turn this watershed over to the federal government.
