Regarding Julie Muhlstein’s column, “Outcry over rape comments shows how far we’ve come”: As an adult adoptee conceived by rape, I say without question: rape is rape and it is always unwanted, unjustified and wrong, regardless of situation or degree.
Secondly, and in similar manner, abortion is always, always wrong, regardless of individual details pertaining to the pregnancy, including incest and rape. Why should either “victim,” whether preborn child, or its mother have to pay for the rapist’s grievous acts? Both victims are innocent, are they not?
Finally, as to the remarks by Akins, I completely agree: unfortunate, ignorant, out-of-touch, and deplorable. However, I see this as excellent opportunity as a “teaching moment.” Rape and abortion are always, always wrong.
Thank you Julie Muhlstein for the educational opportunity.
