Spring is just around the corner, bringing with it a myriad of home improvement projects. One sure bet for the to-do list is acquiring and installing larger numerals to identify your home. While a recently passed city of Everett ordinance would require larger numerals on all new construction, it makes good sense for all homeowners to upgrade their home’s numbering to meet the new standard.
Not sure if you need to replace the numbers at your house? Try this simple exercise. The next time you return home after dark, pay attention to the front of your home. Imagine that response personnel are rushing to the scene in an emergency.
Can you read your house number from the street? Is it obscured by tree branches or invisible because of a burned-out porch bulb? If your home sits far off the street, is the driveway clearly marked? If you can’t see the address, neither can anyone else.
Our emergency response personnel are some of the finest in the business — they’re well-trained and properly equipped. However, if they can’t find you — they can’t help you. Is it worth the risk?
Don’t bet your life on it.
