Reardon, Dawson held off Sims

Am I mistaken or did King County Executive Ron Sims try to pull another “Brightwater” on the citizens of Snohomish County?

It has been reported that at last Thursday’s Sound Transit Board meeting, Sims proposed an amendment to the Sound Transit package that would have taken Snohomish County dollars and used them to fund local bus service in King County. My friends, this would, in my view, be illegal. Fortunately, Snohomish County Sound Transit Board members Deanna Dawson and Aaron Reardon put a stop to Sims’ attempt to fix the budget woes of King County Metro on the backs of Snohomish County taxpayers. If my memory serves me correctly, Ms. Dawson helped us here in Mountlake Terrace to stop Sims from bringing Brightwater through our city and into Edmonds.

Kudos to Dawson and Reardon for standing up for the citizens of Snohomish County against Ron Sims and for their tough negotiating that resulted in a package that brings light rail all the way to Lynnwood, and a whopping 30 percent increase in bus service for Snohomish County. That’s more than double the bus service increases in the other counties. (Maybe if Seattle had Reardon doing their negotiating, they’d still have the Sonics!)

Dawson and Reardon displayed toughness and political leadership and brought us a plan I will be proud to vote for in November.
