I have known Sen. Aaron Reardon since early in his legislative career. I contacted him initially because I disagreed with his stance on an issue. I’m not sure we ever agreed, but I do know he listened and carefully considered the information I provided.
As someone deeply concerned with the neglect of our public health system, I have had regular contact with Sen. Reardon. When local public health funding was removed, he helped make sure alternative funding came from the state. When the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001 occurred, he quickly grasped the need in our community to prepare for potential bio-terrorist acts and strengthen our public health emergency preparedness. In the recent legislative session, he successfully worked with the Republican Senate leadership to maintain critical services and pass a budget without major new taxes.
The economic downturn creates extraordinary demand for government services at the same time the citizens are least able to afford new taxes. Partisan politics as usual will not solve our problems. Sen. Reardon has shown me he has the balanced vision and leadership skills to lead us through these challenging times.
