I want to tell people about a small but wonderful program benefiting older homeowners in our community. Nearly 20 years ago my mother, now 86 years old, had her Riverside area home upgraded through the Community Housing Improvement Program. Recently, she was contacted by the CHIP office and told about “Rebuilding Together,” a volunteer program in which a senior can have modest upgrades done at no cost.
My mother’s home needed attention again: Her sidewalks and steps needed to be replaced; the bathroom needed grab bars; and painting was needed inside and out.
A volunteer crew spent parts of four days completing these and other tasks. The crew, led by Steve Lowery of Performance Nissan-Kia of Everett, local sponsor of “Rebuilding Together,” performed miracles.
These efforts made my mother’s home safer and more comfortable. My mother and our whole family want to thank “Rebuilding Together” and the wonderful volunteers from Performance Nissan-Kia.
