I enjoyed Tom Burke’s very first column in The Herald. I thought it was one of the most unique commentaries and incredibly well written. A welcome fresh approach. However, I had much less enthusiasm for his subsequent submissions, albeit they were all written well. His constant lambasting of President Trump (by far, I am not a “fan”) became monotonous to the point where I couldn’t read more than a few lines. The same is true for Sid Schwab, Eugene Robinson (used to read regularly) and Charles Krauthammer (to a point) when they appeared to have lost their sense of balance with nothing new to add.
However, Tom Mr. Burke’s March 19 column on “What’s changed: Guns, Boys or Society” was the most unique analysis of the school shooting problem I have seen to date. As I think we can all agree, this needs to be solved with the goal of zero tragedies like this in our schools.
As a life member of the NRA, I can know count Tom Burke as sharing the privilege of being one of my favorite Herald columnists. Furthermore, Larry Simoneaux’s column on Feb 26 was heroic and chock-full with truly “common sense.” I am thrilled to have him back; he’s one of the best we’ve got. And so thoroughly enjoyable.
Kudos to both these excellent writers. Good job, Herald!
