Ask the opponents of Redmond Ridge if they think mini cities are good planning tools (Herald Aug. 20 article by Jeff Switzer, “Mini-city Man”). That legal fight has gone on for 10 years. There must be good reasons and Snohomish County needs to look at that as they consider the policies and regulations to make it a reality here.
Unless fortified walls are constructed around these so-called “fully contained communities,” there is no way they are fully contained. People buying those homes will be commuting on our already congested roads to get to their jobs and shopping elsewhere.
Snohomish County taxpayers are tapped. Constructing new roads to service these mini cities will be extremely costly. And we all know by now that the current county council majority will do whatever it takes to please their financial benefactors. What would please them most? Shifting the costs to the existing taxpayers.
Why not concentrate our limited resources into making our existing cities more liveable, our existing roads safer?
