Reed effective since first day in office

Secretary of State Sam Reed has been a personal friend for 36 years. I wholeheartedly concur with the newspaper endorsement of Sam. The Herald’s Oct. 20 endorsement said, “Secretary of state: Reed, a Republican, has done a superb job in his first term as the state’s top elections officer … we’ll go with Reed’s proven ability …”

Sam Reed has been recognized locally, nationally and internationally with numerous awards for his professionalism and distinguished community and public service. Before becoming our Secretary of State, Sam served as Thurston County auditor for 22 years. During that time he also served as a United States elections observer in Kenya (1994) and Russia (1997). Very few people are elected to any office who have the professional experience, management ability and political savvy to be effective on their very first day in office. Sam Reed is one of those officials. That is why Sam is endorsed by 31 out of 39 county auditors (14 Democrat, 16 Republican and 1 non-partisan).

No wonder such diverse organizations as the Washington Public Employees Association and the Association of Washington Business endorse Sam. As Secretary of State, Sam Reed even saved the Washington State Library with all its historical books and documents when the governor cut it out of the state budget. Like the Seattle Mariners’ Edgar Martinez, Sam Reed is steady, dependable and highly respected. Please join with me in voting for Sam Reed for secretary of state.
