Regular workers see the disparity

How ironic that the letter writer who advises that “the first prerequisite to exercising your First Amendment rights is to know what you’re talking about” didn’t himself remember to take an extra large dose of his own medicine! (Sunday letter, “Occupiers are Demos’ tea party.”)

The analogy that blaming Wall Street is like blaming a gun in a murder doesn’t make any logical sense — it’s just inflammatory rhetoric that gets people riled up and confused. Both politicians and the plutocracy that owns and controls this country are to blame for our economic mess.

The absurd fantasy that somehow the poor banks were bullied by the federal government to give home loans to people who couldn’t pay them back is incorrect on about every level possible. The engine driving the housing mess was, and is, corruption and malfeasance by the financial cabal; with a predictable and self-serving assist from the feds.

The protesters aren’t demanding that we “tear down our republic” or “for the destruction of capitalism and the free market system”; regular working people are finally realizing the economic-political game is fixed — in favor of the few at the expense of the many. The “free market system” is nothing more than a deceptive and hollow slogan; our republic has been turned into a metastasizing plutocracy.

The Occupy movement is not “asking to replace the banking system and the republic” and they’re not “bent on destroying billionaires.” The protesters want to reform the banking/financial/economic system and they want the ultra rich to play by the same rules. Sorry, but most Americans I know aren’t too concerned about the oppression of billionaires.

The letter writer offered half-baked opinions masquerading as facts and that is a much greater threat to our so-called republic than some citizens exercising their First Amendment rights.
