Should the language of football game coverage imitate the action on the field?
A few writers find the most bruising language to describe a game which is already rough, forceful and vicious. Does that mean reporting it should be likewise?
The usage of language reflects our society and the language of football seems to reflect our violence.
Every game has a winner and a loser. It’s hard enough to lose. Does it have to be accompanied by mean, hurtful commentary?
To all the sports writers out there: Please be humble, compassionate and understanding. It’s only a game, not a world war.
