In the Dec. 3 article “Lawsuit reformers threaten legislators” Rep. Pat Lantz (D-Gig Harbor) shows her true colors. In the last legislative session the Senate voted to pass a very reasonable medical malpractice reform bill. Rep. Lantz blocked the bill from ever leaving her committee, denying the rest of the state’s representatives the opportunity to vote the will of their constituents.
As the article says, 62 percent of the state’s population favors the reform. Why should one person be able to thwart the will of an entire state? Rep. Lantz also shows her ignorance of the malpractice system when she implies that the new legislation would “immunize wrongdoers” or block the injured from the “right of a decision by his peers.” When all the doctors have left the state, I hope Rep. Lantz and her trial lawyer cronies are willing to make real hospital rounds and stop just being ambulance chasers.
