Isn’t it just amazing how politicians work? They will tell you whatever they think you want to hear and will change their platform with the wind of popularity. Now, in the shadow of much discussion about our national Pledge of Allegiance regarding the words “under God,” Rep. Jim McDermott chooses to omit them.
He is claiming that he learned the pledge before those words were included. This is a despicable explanation by a person who is supposed to be a leader and lawmaker for our country. Perhaps we should forgive people in our prison systems for offenses they have committed against recently passed laws because the law didn’t exist when they were growing up! Mr. McDermott should be ashamed of himself.
This country was founded on the principles of God-fearing people. The amazing thing is how a small minority of our country can have such a big voice on issues of religion. It is this basic foundation that assures freedom, democracy and opportunity that does not exist in many other countries of the world. Mr. McDermott and others like him who do not like the system we live with are always free to leave and find their happiness and success elsewhere.
