Regarding the letter, “Landslide area is unstable”: If Snohomish County PUD contributes to a reopening of the road above Sunset Falls closed by a large landslide, it will save the public money, not cost money. The studies that must be undertaken in the next one to two years will be done to comply with a federal mandate, even if the contractors doing the studies have to walk miles for years around a large and dangerous landslide area.
There are also 270 properties above the landslide area. Many of these residents are now in a life-threatening situation. Irrespective of whether or not you are against or in favor of the dam proposal, reopening the road will save many thousands of dollars in labor and time costs for the ratepayer and taxpayer and makes good sense from a financial, legal and humanitarian point of view.
