Democrats claim that since the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, some 20 million additional people now have insurance. That number, however, is based on a survey data, not actual enrollment. According to data presented by the Heritage Foundation, only 14 million additional people gained coverage because of Obamacare, with 11.8 million of those (84 precent) receiving the “gift” of Medicaid.
Between Congressional Budget Office statistics and one of the Obamacare architects, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Jonathan Gruber, it’s estimated that anywhere from 2 million to 7 million people now on Medicaid would have qualified for the program even without Obamacare.
Several studies have also shown that the uninsured often have better outcomes than those with Medicaid. According to a University of Virginia study, it was found that “for eight different surgical procedures, Medicaid patients were more likely to die than privately insured or uninsured patients. They were also more likely to suffer complications.”
When you add to that the fact that many doctors will not accept Medicaid, it’s clear that all of the hoopla about Obamacare is merely a line of hooey that is being spoon-fed to us by the liberals and their insurance industry lobbyists!
Basic health care should not be in the hands of greedy insurance companies, but wrested from them! We need a single-payer system, e.g., Medicare, Part E (for everybody), with private insurers competing against it for their business. In that way, we have cost controlled health care for all, with private options for those that can afford them.
