The main difference between Democrats and Republicans is that Republicans try to solve problems while Democrats try to postpone them. They can’t ever seem to see the big picture or the long-term effects of their decisions. Here are a few examples.
Tax cuts: Republicans try to tax everyone evenly, realizing the rich people will invest their money in their companies, which creates jobs for people and helps the economy in the long run. Democrats take from the rich and give to the poor. This boosts the figures for a little while, making them look good, but combined with massive amounts of welfare it creates a lazy society of poor people and an upper class that would rather hide its money than invest it. (I’m not saying that all poor people are lazy by any means. Just a minority big enough to make a difference.) Now the democrats have a high unemployment rate, so they create millions of government jobs by simply hiring two people to do all their one-person jobs while paying them prevailing wage.
The Iraq situation: Republicans realize that long-term peace may require short-term sacrifices and we need to address the problem before it escalates more. The Democrats try to make the whole thing go back underground where we can ignore it again. The list goes on and on – gun control, national security, CIA regulation, Alaskan oil drilling, government bureaucracy, Social Security … all of these issues can be analyzed the same way.
There’s an old saying: “If you’re young and you’re a Republican, you’re cruel and if you’re old and you’re a Democrat, you’re stupid.” It is so true, (even though I’m still young). Why do you think that old people are generally Republicans? It’s because they have been around long enough to see who really solves problems and who simply puts Band-Aids on them.
