The Monday letter, “Mars exploration a waste of money,” about overspending for the Mars Rover project, had some very well-founded reasons. Yes, we do have economic problems in our country. Yes, we do have people who have no jobs and lack food.
However, let’s look beyond just what is happening now and look to what would happen in the future without projects such as the Mars Rover.
We conducted research on the Rover as part of our school project. We found out that this particular project was a big part of space exploration; something that continues to be necessary for our country if we want to be successful in science research and technology in the future.
There are many jobs associated with space exploration and if the Rover project were to be discontinued, people would lose good jobs. What does the writer propose would be the good of more people losing jobs — especially high-paying jobs that give our country lots of tax money to help us get out of debt?
