On behalf of the Marysville Community Food Bank, I want to once again extend our deep appreciation to people in the Marysville area for their generous donations of food and money to help meet our needs during the holiday season.
We served well over 600 families with food boxes that included turkey, ham or a gift certificate for meat at one of the local grocery stores. In addition, some 1,500 children received Christmas gifts from the toy store sponsored by Operation Marysville Community Christmas. Through the combined efforts of businesses, schools, churches, service orgainizations, the Fire and Police departments, city employees and local citizens, our clients — the working poor, homeless and destitute — were not forgotten.
Food drives conducted by the schools raised more then 21,000 pounds of food; the red barrels in stores, banks, businesses and professional offices brought in another 13,000 pounds. Other individuals and businesses supplied us with turkeys, hams and a variety of other food.
Nearly 100 Food Bank volunteers worked steadily for three days just before Christmas to distribute boxes to our clients and deliver them to the homes of those who were unable to come in.
Again, we want to thank everyone who helped in this huge effort. It is only with their assistance that we are able to continue carrying out our mission of feeding the hungry in our community.
