In reference to Arch Whisman’s Jan. 28 letter in The Herald (“Anti-war protestors: It’s a small minority opposed to war”): I’d like to know where he is getting his information when he says it is a small minority protesting against going to war against Iraq. On Jan. 18 Washington D.C. had more than 500,000 people turn out for the demonstration. San Francisco had more than 200,000. Thousands participated in other cities around the U.S. I was at one demonstration in Seattle that numbered more than 10,000. The march on Martin Luther King Day, which had “Money for the poor, not for war” as the theme, had more than 15,000 people.
This movement has grown so large that even the mainstream media cannot ignore it any longer. I personally think the resistance to this has grown so large that Bush is going to find it hard to make his argument, whether the U.S. has support from other countries or goes it alone. No war against Iraq. No war, period.
