Regarding Bob King’s August 8 letter titled, “Miracles: Credit training and expertise, not God.” It’s clear Mr. King is an atheist and sees himself as a strong person in no need of any help. Everything he knows and does comes from his own efforts and his own strength. He scoffs and ridicules anyone who is weak, anyone who is able to see the reality of the world they live in.
Mr. King needs to stop and think – how did our universe come to be? Why are we here?
After considering these things, this weakling has been driven to the startling conclusion that everything around us was brought into being by something or someone outside of it – an intelligent designer – a creator (for me, the God of the Bible and His son Jesus fit the bill). All I have, I didn’t get on my own. I came out of the womb and the first thing I know, I’m sitting on a living room floor somewhere playing with toys a big person gave me, totally dependent on forces outside me.
Assuming God is, He allows events to happen to people. Our response to these events can define who we are. Our God-given talents and abilities can be used to affect the lives of others. What motivates us to put up the effort to save the life of someone else? Naturally, we’re all selfish and don’t really want to get involved, but I believe God leads us to care for our fellow man, to look beyond ourselves with compassion on others. All we have to do is decide how to respond to this leading and decide whether or not to acknowledge His role in it all and give Him the credit.
