What the heck is going on with our rest stops along I-5? I was just on a road trip and the state Transportation Department needs to seriously get on the same page with regards to cleanliness at the rest stops.
Recently I stopped at the rest stop northbound on I-5, just north of Exit 206 near Smokey Point. I was very surprised to see the garbage dumpster gone. Also, there was no waste container in the women’s restroom. However, a bag of garbage was left in the restroom as was garbage in two of the stalls! The handicap stall was totally disgusting!
Coming home Oct. 1, I stopped at the rest stop, just south of Mile Post 56, about 10 miles north from Kelso. Beautiful! Clean! Garbage cans in several locations around the rest stop! Waste cans in the restrooms!
I decided to take care of my dog, once more, before home, so we stopped at the rest stop north of Exit 206. I couldn’t believe my eyes! Open pieces of garbage in several stalls, dirty diapers dumped outside and in the restrooms. I needed to use the restroom, but I turned right around and waited until I got home in Burlington. Why aren’t there more cleaning crews like the one down for the Kelso rest stops? This restroom is the first one northbound from south Tacoma and it’s a busy one.
