The director of public services and chief building department official for the city of Everett, Kirk Brooks, has now entered the ranks of retirement. My wife Linda, and son Christopher, wish to convey our best wishes to Mr. Brooks and his family and wish them all the best of health and happiness.
Mr. Brooks gained our respect with his sense of fairness, and sensitivity for the human element, in working with us to help resolve a serious issue. In a contentious, protracted, complex code issue, when others seemed to be working against us, it was Mr. Brooks who displayed equity and fairness in his efforts to help us.
The city of Everett will certainly need to look far and wide to find the right individual to permanently replace him. The city must seek a person of integrity who is committed to applying the information and services of the building department in a manner with the most positive benefit to those it serves. Above all, the city needs a building official, or any official or employee, who leads with everyday examples of fairness, respect and honesty as did Mr. Brooks. We believe these are the qualities the citizens of Everett value most.
All the best to you, Mr. Brooks!
Lynn, Linda and Chris Claughton
