It happens every time. The high rollers wine and dine the local politicians and next thing you know, they have dollar signs in their eyes. They can’t wait to dip into the state cofferes to pursue what they have been convinced is easy money.
It makes no sense to spend state funds on developing a recreation venue that will have an overwhelmingly negative impact on the affected community. The jobs that will be created by the racetrack are low-skilled, low-paying seasonal jobs. This is not the kind of job development that will benefit the county. The negative social, economic and environmental impacts far outweigh any of the promised benefits.
The only people who will benefit from the NASCAR venture are the track owners and a handful of local people. The rest of us will be left with chump change.
