We have a motto in my classroom at Marysville Junior High – “Find something worth doing and do it!” It serves as a simple reminder of our power to truly make a difference when we have a vision of something that needs to be done and are unwilling to let obstacles stand in our way.
If we had a “Something Worth Doing” award – and maybe we should – I would nominate Ron Toppi, founder of Sharing Wheels Community Bike Shop. Ron has proven to be a consistent “doer” in our community, working as a tireless advocate for Everett’s low-income residents, and promoting a participatory democracy that includes all of our citizens.
I am inspired by Ron’s work, which serves to remind me that we really are all in this together. Thanks to Ron and those like him who have found something worth doing and are doing it!
