On August 6, the residents of Rucker Hill in Everett celebrated the first “Night Out Against Crime” in our neighborhood. We had 40 to 45 neighbors show up at Rucker Hill Park. It was a great time to meet and further our friendships with one another. There were many activities for all: barbecuing, singing, horseshoes, volleyball, badminton, prizes and, of course, socializing. Neighbors who have been residents for only two months as well as neighbors who’ve lived here more than 42 years gathered to celebrate.
A most enjoyable part of the evening was the constant visits we had from our outstanding police department. In all, more than a dozen officers stopped by to visit and support our neighborhood gathering. From Everett Police Chief Jim Scharf on down to Icon the police dog, we welcomed them all. Sgt. Meyer was kind enough to spend some time discussing community safety. Deputy Chief Miller was encouraged to see such strong neighborhood involvement. We would like to thank the police department for showing up at our celebration and for their continued support.
The neighbors of Rucker Hill would also like to extend a special thank you to the City of Everett Parks Department for all the help and cooperation they have given us in the past month in our efforts to clean up the park and prepare for Tuesday evening’s celebration. They have provided outstanding service and we have enjoyed their enthusiasm and willingness to respond to our requests.
Without even mentioning the need, Tuesday morning the parks department dropped off several additional picnic tables, an extra garbage can and the mowing crew was out shortly thereafter to do their job prior to our party.
We, as a neighborhood, were very pleased with the turnout and we look forward to next year’s party.
