Rules for safer holiday needed

My husband (81) and I (70) just moved to your beautiful city of Marysville from Dallas. (Just too hot for us old folks.) As parents of 11 children and 20 grandchildren, we submit the following regarding the article about Halloween safety tips:

1. The state, or Marysville, needs to change the date of trick or treating so it’s always on the weekend, so more parents are able to accompany their child.

2. In no way should a parent even think of letting their child have a costume that would have any form of a weapon. They could be in the wrong place at the wrong time and that so-called weapon might look real and get someone killed or injured.

3. Any parent that would let their child go trick or treating that does not know without a shadow of a doubt who they are, and what their address and phone number are, should be charged with child neglect or worse.

4. There should be an age limit. I have opened the door and had to look up at young adults asking for a treat.

5. Maybe some folks have not heard or may not think that Halloween is the perfect time to have some nut grab some child who is alone; this is the perfect time. Having all the children dressed up, who’s to say who’s who when a child is gone? You cannot identify them.

6. All children should be accompanied by an adult over 18.

If everyone would just beware of their surroundings and look at the candy before they eat it, they should all have a great time.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Champagne
