Recent letters to the editor have prejudged and hung the Bush administration over the Enron mess. This tactic is reminiscent of the plight of the economy, which began tanking early in 2001 and was officially proclaimed a recession in March of this year. Now, in spite of these facts, the Bush administration, a mere three months in office, is being blamed for it by the loyal opposition, the Democrats, believe it or not.
There is no question that all the Enron pieces and players need to be sorted out and until that is done we need not rush to judgment. Lest we forget, the Clinton administration was in charge when many of the games being played by Enron took place. Names such as Cantor, Dailey, the late Ron Brown, and former President Clinton himself surfaced in connection with the India energy facility and with some decisions regarding the Kyoto Treaty.
Be assured that by no means is any of the above an indictment, but what I wish to point out is that there were connections and opportunities at many levels. And investigations are under way. So, let’s be patient and wait and see.
