How sad and disgusting it was on Veterans Day to see so few American flags on homes in Marysville. As a resident of the Kellog Meadows neighborhood I saw, besides our own, two other flags on homes. Interestingly, one of the homes is occupied by an immigrant family. I didn’t go around the entire area, but as I drove around town I paid particular attention to which homes had flags and which didn’t. I would venture a guess that less than one in 100 took the time or cared enough to fly a flag in honor of those who gave so much that we might have the privilege of freedom.
It’s a sad commentary on what this country has become. I could write pages about the lack of caring being demonstrated daily by our citizens. When are we going to wake up and realize our freedom is in great jeopardy? Complacency will be our destroyer.
On a brighter note, we are fortunate to have people like Mike and Patty Kossak and their staff at the Golden Corral Buffet, who once again honored the veterans and active duty personnel by putting on a fine dinner free of charge in thanks for their efforts. If only more people cared enough to pay tribute. Thank you Golden Corral.
