Salary increases conflict with cuts

I find it interesting that Snohomish County Executive Bob Drewel has asked all departments, including law enforcement, to cut their budget by up to 4.5 percent according to the August 3 article, “Budget threatens animal control.”

Yet the county council and Drewel, throught the Citizens’ Commission on Salaries for Elected Officials voted recently to raise the salaries of Drewel and the county council .

The commission has one member appointed by each council member. The Executive appoints two.

I had hoped that the councilwould vote with consideration of Snohomish County taxpayers.
