Thanks to all who supported and attended the Monroe Garden Club’s Yearly Plant Sale fundraiser on May 13 at the East County Senior Center, Monroe! Held in conjunction with the Senior Center Spring Bzzzar, it was a busy place this year! Good deals were found by all, especially among the 1,000-plus perennials grown by club members. Perennials keep growing year after year; and along with native plants provide homes and food for wildlife, such as birds, bees, and other critters. Trees, shrubs, herb starts, tomato plants, house plants, garden art, and small Mother’s Day Gifts also disappeared quickly.
Seven great raffle items were donated this year having a total value of $500. Thank yous go to: McLendon Hardware of Woodinville, Fred Meyer, Walmart, Steuber Distributing Co. of Snohomish, Lowe’s and Garden Club members.
The Monroe Garden Club’s aim is to share our love of gardening with others and to stimulate interest in gardening. The sale supports our community projects of a scholarship and flowers in downtown Monroe. Volunteer gardeners from the club help grow produce for the Sky Valley Food Bank at the garden next to the Food Bank; and club members assist at horticulture shows during the Evergreen State Fair. See you next year!
