The writer of the “Golden Goose long past prime” letter to the editor (May 20) lost credibility for his argument in his first sentence when he failed to name the country where he observed “a society in utter dependence on government.” Talk about a roadblock “to honest and realistic decision making.” Name the country, sir, and let us readers have a chance to evaluate that situation.
The writer talks about the impact of social dependency, but does not mention the growing disparity between the rich and the poor. Not a word about corporate greed and America’s growing plutocracy.
I agree with the writer that we can’t have a government that provides everything for everyone. However, if we have a country that doesn’t provide for its poor and needy, then we have nothing.
