This is in regard to the letter by Connie Murry regarding Sound Transit’s Sounder rail service from Everett to Seattle and back (“Sounder: Train not just for commuters anymore,” Feb. 8).
I have been riding the trains on the Seattle to Everett route since 1968 – from the days of the Great Northern Railway through the Burlington Northern merger, to the Amtrak era, and now an added regional transit service on that line operated over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe in addition to the Amtrak trains that also operate on that line. The scenery has always been great on that route being that the train runs along Puget Sound, as well as crossing the Ballard Locks over the ship canal in Seattle. You also get great views of the Olympic Mountains on clear days and also get to see eagles, sea lions and orcas at times. Also there are views of a couple of “nude” beaches that the trains go by south of Edmonds during the spring and summer time whereby it might be an eye opener for the passengers who are not used to riding that route during the warm weather! Yes, that train beats the dull scenery on I-5 from Seattle to Everett!
