I am writing to share my experiences as a student in the Lakewood School District. During these past 11 years, I have been prepared to excel in college, met amazing people, and fell in love with this tiny 2A area. Lakewood has been able to offer me advanced academic placements, leadership pursuits and amazing athletic opportunities. But the best aspect of Lakewood is the familiarity and relationships with the students, teachers and buildings.
My Lakewood journey began at Lakewood Elementary in 2001. I remember when waking up and going to school was always the highlight of my week. Even in kindergarten, my teacher was able to challenge me in a self-paced reading program. What’s amazing is that half my kindergarten class is still in school with me today! Not many people can bring themselves to leave Lakewood!
When Cougar Creek was completed in 2003, I was in the boundaries of this brand new colorful and angular school. Excitement is an understatement for how I felt going into that wonderful school at the very first open house. I always associate Cougar Creek with words like warm, cozy and comfortable. The learning environment there was very relaxed and organized. My teacher always gave me opportunities to do advanced learning with reading and math, and I even got to experience being in the enrichment fifth grade class. That program really pushed me in math and science, and is most definitely why I am so driven as a high school student.
Now in my sophomore year of high school, I continue to be pleased with the experience. I have been able to learn Spanish, computer tech skills, and advanced math and English. The school is run with strict but fair rules, and the school leaders have brought an enjoyable atmosphere to the Lakewood hallways. The lunch isn’t too bad either! Amazingly, only two more years of my life will be spent in the Lakewood Commons. There is so much knowledge, memories, and life skills I will take away to college and onward from my Lakewood experience. There is no other, and no better, school I can imagine growing up in.
