I feel compelled to respond to the Thursday letter regarding the Walkabout program at Cascade High School. (“Concept a good one, minus church.”)
Not only is it a great idea but one that we should embrace and welcome.
The fact that The Herald identified the volunteer’s place of employment in no way implies that the volunteer is there to further their business or profits.
It is this kind of judgmental thinking that keep people from stepping forward to volunteer.
Why do we assume there is something in it for the volunteer?
Where are our words of thanks?
I do not know the volunteer or attend the church mentioned in this story, nor do I have a child who attends Cascade High School, but I would like to send a huge thank you to all the nameless volunteers that give so much of themselves. Thank you.
