Polls are open today in much of Snohomish County, where several school districts are asking voters to approve bond issues and levies. We urge “yes” votes for levies in Lake Stevens and Sultan, and for well-justified bond measures and levies in the Edmonds, Everett, Marysville, Mukilteo and Northshore districts.
Each measure requires a 60 percent supermajority to pass, so supporters are hoping for a big turnout.
A few things to remember: Snohomish County’s move to all-mail balloting doesn’t begin until September, so traditional polling places will be open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. today. Those who already vote by mail need to have their ballot postmarked by today, or can drop it off at any polling place or at the county auditor’s office at 3000 Rockefeller in Everett.
Also, the auditor confirms that it’s OK to mark your mail ballot with a black ballpoint pen, despite instructions that tell you to use a No. 2 pencil. Those instructions, which were intended to keep voters from using felt pens that can bleed through and cause tabulation problems, will be clarified by the next election.
Whether you use pen, pencil or a polling-place computer screen, take the time to cast your vote. It’s an investment in our most valuable resource: our kids.
