Regarding the Sunday Viewpoints commentary, “Coal fight may cost us jobs, investment”: Chris Strow and the U.S. Chamber don’t want the public to weigh in on the dangers Northwest coal exports will have on earth’s climate. Why? Because both are science deniers — they reject the scientific evidence that Western coal exports will drive CO2 concentrations to dangerous climate altering levels.
Denying reality gives deniers like Chris Strow license to sell the investments in NW coal export terminals as progress; when, in reality, the terminals are huge financial boondoggles. Contrary to Chris Strow’s ill-informed opinion, the terminals will have direct and significant adverse environmental climate impacts at home and across the globe. And, therefore climate impacts must be considered.
Hopefully, those that must review the merits of these terminals will not be ill-informed deniers like Chris Strow. Hopefully, they will thoroughly understand the scientific evidence and not fall for the nonsense peddled by the likes of Chris Strow and the U.S. Chamber.
