Selling alcohol mocks safety

Unbelievable. That is the word that comes to my mind when I read that the Legislature approved the State Liquor Control Board’s move to open liquor stores in four area malls during the holiday season. All in the name of the almighty tax dollar.

Who cares about public safety on the highways? Sell the booze, let ’em get drunk and get on the highway. As long as we can get tax revenue that is what matters. This coming holiday season when I see the safety advertisements for “Don’t drink and drive,” or “Drive hammered, get nailed,” I will be sure to look at them as hyperbole as this state, and especially this Legislature, does not care about public safety, just gimme, gimme more tax money any way you can.

This same Legislature that refuses to strengthen drunk driving laws to get more of these people off the road by making it a felony to drive drunk, especially if you cause an accident and harm or kill someone. Wonderful thinking. What’s next? Opening Joe’s Guns and Ammo next to the liquor store? Unbelievable.
