Regarding the guest commentary, “‘Greener’ fuels not yet worth the risks”: I was not surprised to hear Washington state Sen. Curtis King trot out comprehensively debunked oil industry “science” in his recent Herald commentary criticizing Gov. Inslee’s clean fuels policy goals.
Sen. King (from Yakima) has proven time and again that he cares more about oil company profits than he does the people of Washington, who broadly support moving away from dirty fossil fuels in favor of locally produced, clean alternatives.
I was surprised to read his comments in the Everett Herald. Sen. King does not speak for me nor, for that matter, Snohomish County. Instead of lining the already fat wallets of the oil industry — a technology-neutral clean fuel standard would keep money in our communities, supporting local workers and employers throughout the state. I support that.
A clean fuel standard would help to keep our Pacific Northwest air clean and make progress on responding to impending climate change. Our families will be healthier, and our communities stronger.
We have our own elected leaders in Snohomish County, and I’d prefer to hear from them on this important topic!
I have faith that our own local leaders will be more willing than Sen. King to set aside special interests and pursue what is best for our region, our state, and our future.
