Sen. Murray’s child care bill deserves public support

Thanks for your shocking editorial about the current state of child-care in our state and country (“Making quality child care affordable, accessible,” The Herald, March 1). Sen. Patty Murray’s proposed bill (with Sen. Maria Cantwell’s support) is strategic and comprehensive with early learning, living-wage jobs and funding included.

This bill will not only create ladders out of poverty, but a more equitable society in America as well. Sen. Murray’s bill will bring hope to working mothers and fathers in Washington state and around the country. Each of us can help with five minutes for a phone call thanking our senators for this work, or just send a copy of this editorial, with a big “YES” or other comments written on it and your name.

Next up, how about an editorial about Sen. Cantwell’s work and proposed legislation on affordable housing, the lack of which contributes to homelessness and the downward spiral of families into poverty?
