Democrats, having achieved a bare majority in the Legislature, are busily trying to undo the will of the people, as expressed in 1998 by Initiative 200, by attempting to pass SB 6406. If you believe, as did Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., that we should be judged by the content of our character rather than the color of our skin, you should call your legislator and express your displeasure at SB6 406.
This bill would entirely overturn I-200 and re-intruduce discrimination into state and contractor hiring and college admissions. I-200 passed overwhelmingly by 59 percent, carrying 38 of 39 counties. And it barely lost in the 39th, Krazy King County. Outside of Seattle it actually won in King County. Yet Democrats, eager to practice reverse discrimination, are holding hearings and scheduled 50 people to speak in favor of SB 6406, and only one (John Carlson, sponsor of I-200) to speak against.
Our colleges and universities are far more diverse today than they were 20 years ago so the argument can be made that I-200 has increased diversity, not diminished it. All of us should be protected from racial or sexual discrimination when it comes to hiring and college admission practices and I-200 has done just that for 20 years. It would be a shame if we had to do it all over again.
